Granville T. Woods Reinvention
The purpose of this project was to pick one of Granville T. Woods' many inventions, and to reinvent it to conform to practical use in modern society. My team was assigned the "Overhead Conducting System for Electric Railways. My team for accomplishing this task consisted of me and 3 other classmates. In the context of this assignment, my group and I had to research the overhead conducting system for electric railways, create a 3-D physical model of our improved invention, create a Google SketchUp model, make a paper advertisement trying to sell it, create a digital commercial advertising it, and to compose a professional business proposal to garner the attention of an actual company. Using knowledge and experience gained from the "Living Together" project, my group collaborated together a lot better and the project turned out phenomenal.
Above: We had ideas on how to improve, and we implemented those ideas to the best of our ability in designing and working on our project.

About Granville T. Woods
Granville T, Woods was an African-American inventor who contributed a great deal to the railroad industry by introducing electricity in its framework. Woods, although one of the most inventors of the 19th century is not well-known and I would be impressed if you knew who he was before reading this. Woods was born in 1856 and actually left grade school at the age of 10. He worked on railroads and spent his spare time studying electricity and mechanical engineering. He went on to patent over 60 inventions before his death in 1910. He overcame many obstacles and still succeeded, without even a basic education. Think about what he could have done with an education!
