Getting Information for a Budget
When you need to create a budget, you need to find out what kind of materials are available, and how much it costs.
- Before you can even start researching costs, you must first make a list of the materials needed. Your list of materials depends on what you are planning to build.
- To get information, use the internet to see what materials you may need by searching the general materials that are required to build whatever you are building.
- Don't be afraid to make some calls to companies or organizations to get info. They will most likely tell you everything you need to know, and they might know even more than the website.
- With all of the materials you need known, you can now try to figure out how much all of the materials cost. To do this, research the price of each individual product, and record it. You now have to assess how much of each material you will need.
- In your budget, be sure to include columns about price per individual product, and the amount needed for each material.
Our group had to research what materials to use to construct the road sign support with in real life, so we called MDOT and asked what materials were utilized in the construction of sign supports. MDOT was very knowledgeable and we discerned that we needed high grade steel and aluminum sheeting. We then went on a website called Speedymetals.com and we found out that steel was sold individually in 5 foot rods. We took our real life dimensions and used those to figure out exactly how much steel we would need for our sign support. By using the internet and calling companies, you too can get solid information for composing your budget.
